This weeks post, I made a short video about the significance of effective and transparent communication in healthcare. This is a particular issue of interest to me due to my experience in the medical world, where I have observed the direct impact of confusing or hermetic information on patients.
The current digital age has made health information online sources to numerous individuals. Although this may be useful it also poses challenges. Not everything is in a form that can be easily understood, and some facts might be inappropriate or misinterpreted. The CDC (https://www.cdC.gov/healthliteracy) says that health literacy can aid better decision-making in people regarding their care, which explains the significance of communication in actuality.
The other consideration is the effects of visuals on learning. Photos and videos can help to make the information more interesting, and also can lead to misinformation when not properly used. This is particularly pertinent as AI-generated content increases, creating an opportunity to discrepancy between the actual and artificial media (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-02094-7).
Developing this video helped me understand more about the importance of being able to critically think about the content we watch and about the content we produce. As media makers, we have a role to play in disseminating information that is not only interesting, but also true and available.
